Permuse seeks to be a source of inspiration by generating permutations of your musical ideas. Within the framework of a bar of eighth notes, the chromatic scale, and rests, you can compose a phrase and listen as it mutates into something unexpected and new. You can continue to interact with your composition, even as it mutates.

This framework may seem simple and restrictive, but this is intentional. By limiting the number of ways in which you can modify the music, Permuse encourages you to explore the 1,475,789,056 possible permutations within its framework.

Permuse is inspired by generative music and music created with genetic algorithms. However, Permuse does not use a true genetic algorithm, as users dont apply selective pressure. Instead, they can directly modify the music as it mutates.

How to use:
-Move sliders to set the pitch of each note
-Click blue boxes to indicate rests
-Click the green button to begin playback
-Click the purple button to start generating permutations (permutations are only generated when the button is bright)
-Interact with your mutating composition
